Need Help on Soundproofing
Sound Insulation Question
I installed a stereo system in my 400E; I've used dynamat on various areas of the car to dampen the metal noise vibration. I would like to greatly reduce the road noise, I've read the forum comments about noise reduction, but I need a little more specific info and help. It seems the doors are an area were a good amount of road noise enters, the doors panels fit so tight, what noise absorbing material can I use under the door panels? Also on the interior floor, how thick of material can I use so the carpet will fit back into place neatly? And an another big question is there a improvement by adding noise-absorbing material to the roof area? I know there are various material for noise reduction, and I have limited knowledge about what type of material to use, is jute as good as the foam with rubber backing, is it best to use the self adhesive products? I notice several people have reduced there interior noise considerably with the application of soundproofing materials, which required a lot of work and knowledge, I will greatly appreciate all your help and advice. Happy Holidays, timreid

timreid - when you say "under" the door panels are you talking about the door "skin" (the area that you have to remove the moisture barrier to get to) or are you talking about the surface right beneath the door panel?
I had a Miata which I had applied multiple layers of Dyanmat to the door panels ("skin" of door). It had a major effect on noise reduction. I personally would not go with the spray products (I used these in the trunk of my Miata). They tend to be quite messy. I think they are better used in areas that don't have so many moving parts (ie hard to reach corners of the trunk etc.). I think it would help to mulit-layer Dynamat the roof area. |
