BTW, do you agree that I don't have the BOSE amp? I don't think I even have any amp as I can't find them in the trunk!

In the UK the W140 was availible as a CL420 - and the bose system was an option...

I have no centre speaker in the rearview mirror, no speaker in the back of the door (4" jobbie, missing completely, no bracket, wires that go to it arnt connected to the head unit) and there are only 2 subs in the parcel shelf, not 4 - the other two holes are blocked off.

I took the RHS cover apart in the boot, only to find the big black box pictured above - by randomly unplugging it it appears to be somthing to do with the windows, as the drivers window and mirrors didnt work after unplugging it

no white becker box either

You have something different than anything I have been exposed to over here. I just got done converting a Japaneese 140 car over to US stereo gear and other than the factory panasonic cassette and the funky cd changer the bose system was aparently the same as ours.

Car audio honesty

After being a car audio rep for ten years I have seen scores of MBs, all models, in car stereo store bays having the o.e. system removed. "No highs...no lows...it must be Bose!" Many store owners have told many customers, honestly, that the best way to improve their audio system is to replace it with an all four ohm aftermarket system. An aftermarket amplifier with aftermarket speakers (component or coaxial) can make a huge improvement in the audio in any Mercedes (even with CD...Imagine!). Any brand of aftermarket coaxial speaker is better than the o.e. one that owners seek to replace. P.

I think that is a infrared control module. See MERCEDES BENZ W140 INFRARED CONTROL MODULE # 1408200726 IR 5WK4521 RCM RCU 71.002100
