Radio/Speaker suggestions for '86 300E?
I'd like to replace the original Becker radio and front and rear speakers in my '86 300E without spending a lot of money. Can anyone recommend a moderately priced AM/FM/CD player as well as speakers that will fit the stock enclosures? I prefer a radio with knobs for volume and tuning ( if they still make such archaic things!) instead of all pushbuttons and paddles. I'm willing to spend a little more on the speakers, but I don't want to have to get into modifying things too much, if at all, to get them to fit. I don't need amazing sound or bass that will rattle the guy's dentures 5 cars behind me. I just want clean sound at reasonable volume levels and a tuner that pulls in stations as strongly as possible.
Any help with brand names, models and prices would be appreciated. Thanks, Gary |

Hi Gary, I would recomend the alpine 9805 am fm cd or higher and I sell not only that but I have the rainbow speakers made in germany for the 124 (E) mercedes so they go in in 15 min with no cutting or drilling. They are a two way speaker and sound nice with the power of a new headunit. Let me know if you are interested I can be reached @800-467-6545.

I installed a Aiwa CD player that I had setting around, and bought some 4" & 5.5" Pioneer speakers for my 84. No real issues installing them but they don't sound much if any better than stock. Now for ones which do, my 83 has a Kenwood CD player which runs to a Jensen amp (probably not needed) then branch out to the Blaupunkt speakers, it sounds so nice and crisp. I really regret buying those Pioneers.
