bought me a "new" 95 S420--antenna won't come up ?
Can anyone point me in the right direction on why the radio antenna does not raise when radio is ON.
Another couple of electric gremlins: I. The drivers seat doesn't rise as high as I thought it should and once blew a fuse? The fuse blew with a real heavy (290 lbs) car salesman trying to help me. They, (MB dealer) promised to order some sort of gear which tech said it required. When it stopped working it made a rather loud sound and the seat fell to it lowest position and fuse had to be replaced before I took the car. 2. The left outside mirror will not work in Left -- Right plane. It works in Up/Down mode fine. I only discovered this after I signed and drove away. !!? Any help would be nice since I'm a fair DIYer but not yet familiar with this new model. Had a 300E which I traded in. DanielW |

On my S320, the antenna doesn't come up unless the cellphone is turned on. Doesn't seem to care one bit about the radio - I think this is normal behaviour.

thanks Ehmand,....
Thanks anyway, but my car does not have the cell phone option or CD changer (yet). Just AM/FM and Weather radio.
Luck to you, DanielW |

If they get you that gear, let me know the part number. My car has a similar situation - the driver seat rear height adjustment is shot. Turns out a pink nylon gear disintegrated. Everyone I ask from dealers to wreckers say I have to get a $1700 (new) seat track assembly.

I will post the outcome as soon as they do something !
mine was a broken by the demo salesman, SO, they promised to repair it as part of the sale requirement. Hope they don't drag their feet on it. Has just been 5 days so far. I'll ask for actual part # when they repair it; then I'll post the number. Mine is a Starmarked car so they should fix it even if it requires the big $$ part. ? right ?
Any other advise from your experiences with S420 would be appreciated. For instance; does the 95 experience the AC evaporator corrosion/leak? I'm hoping that by 95 that problem had already been improved upon. ? how do you remove the wood around the gear selector ? Anyone want to trade CD of 124 cars for the 140 CD (? are there CD for that model and year?) DanielW |

The evaporator problem continued through the life of the W140 but I think the stats show that there is less per capita occurence in the later models even considering the newness factor.
JimF's website will answer a lot of questions including how to lift the wood trim - http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_S500.html . Jim doesn't describe removing the shift lever which you have to do if you want to replace the wood trim. To my knowledge the W140 manual has not been published on CD for consumers. SteveB said that the W140 was the first series not to have hardcopy manuals so it'll be interesting to see what MB makes available if anything. Keep your W124 CD manual for now. The maintenance section covers the W140 in sufficient detail and just about everything you need to know about the engine is in the M119 section. I supplement this with a subscription to www.allpardiy.com. I'd worry if this is all professionals have to work with but it's [not much] better than nothing. Sixto, They replaced the entire seat track unit,
My dealer replaced the entire seat track unit, ?motors and all, I think.. Shop forman says that part are not available seperatly. I assume that's correct-- since they were paying for it completely. He stated that their cost for seat track unit was $1200. If only a small part was available I assume they would have repaired it that way. So I have no part numbers, Sorry.
I was able to get my seat bottom to rise (and stay) to a reasonable driving position during the 2 wks while part was on order. I stood outside the car and "Lifted" up on seat back firmly while operating the door buttons with my left hand. I came right up and stayed for the couple of weeks until part arrived. I might be possible to find a machine shop to fabricate the gear from brass or some sort of nylon stock if they could have the old part to use as a measuring guide. Certainly could not cost as much as the new stuff. If successful have him make up a bunch. I suspect you could sell them all over the country for 150.00 each ??!! I also soldered in the "cool harness" suggested resistor for aux fan early come on (90) my resistor measured 1049 ohms. Seem to work fine but I only completed that today----not a lot of data yet, and also not real warm today. Luck to you, DanielW |

Check with Steve Brotherton
He has a guy who has a machine shop that makes "stuff" for him. He may be able to help you out.
