How to trim the AM antenna on a Becker 1492

Does anyone know where the antenna trimmer is on a round knob Becker 1492?

That's on your 95 wagon right?
It's in some imaginary world.......ain't got one, either up or down, take your pick.
It's really only useful to trim the antenna height for FM reception I think though, on AM you want it full up.

Gilly,

yes, the wagon. I have done this on older cars/radios with some pretty good results. So no go on the E320 series ......?

I also have posted a new issue with the sunroof on the wagon, where the switch won't close or open it (currently stuck in tilt) and someone had posted regarding a ground near the antenna causing a closing problem. I wonder if the two are related and I actually have a ground problem?

On the older versions of the 124, it had a seperate antenna switch which would allow you to adjust the mast height of the antenna. Your 95 I believe has no antenna switch, antenna just raises or lowers depending on if the radio is on or not.
But again I'm sure the owners manual on the older ones tells you to adjust the antenna mast height to about 1 ft for better FM reception, for AM it should be all the way up.

Antenna Trim Question

Hi haasman,

The BE-1492 is a newer radio and not like the old ones that had an adjustment in the rear or on the side to adjust the antenna for the radio to match the antenna. The newer ones have pre-set tuner packs inside and have no adjustments that can be made to trim the antenna. They are pre-adjusted to match the factory Hirschman antenna on the car so no adjustment should be needed. Remember, all radios differ from each other in manufacturing. So if you have another vehicle that picks up a particular station better than your BE-1492 it is only due to design of the tuner not the antenna, unless your antenna is bad of course but you would find AM almost non-existant and FM would be weak. If you need further help let me know.

Thanks for both of your replies.

I will continue to sleuth. Is there any value for say resistance or other measure I can use to test the antenna?
