MB Fader Question

I am in the process of installing a stereo in my 83 300SD. When I got the car there was no head unit, but there is an amp mounted in the trunk (which I need to pull out to identify).

The JVC head unit I got, came out of the same year and model and has the front right and left channels feeding to the fader.

It would seem to me that I loose some punch, because the rear right and left are not used.

Am I correct?

Depending on the size of the amp, might it make sense to wire it through the fader, being I am getting some punch from the amp?

Thank's
Don

I by-passed the factory fader.
