MB CD changer (older model)

A while back I purchased on ebay an early 90's vintage CD changer for my 93 300E. It is part number 002-820-42-89-90. Although the local parts desk said it was the right one, it is not. Don't know whether it works---the seller said it does.

Question to forum: anyone got an idea who might be able to use this device? I'm inclined to give it free to a good home, but am asking suggestions.

Thanks.

Can you post a picture? Is the EBay item still out there? You can probably get what you paid for back.

How do you know that it is not the correct changer? Is it a Becker 980?

Check here. Maybe you just need the correct connectors.

Thanks, this information is very helpful. I don't think the changer is a Becker 980. It looks a lot more like the optional dealer installed 6-disk unit pictured with the Becker 1432 head unit. Don't have any connectors or connection information (singe unit plug, no separate power connection). Is there some way to follow up?

Appreciate your help.

Do you mean like pictured with the -1492- instead of "like the optional dealer installed 6-disk unit pictured with the Becker -1432- head unit"? (I know, a guy can go nuts with all these model numbers - that's why I had to put this page together to try to keep things straight:-))

I'm thinking what you have is actually for the 1994 and on cars (that's when the 1492 replaced the 1432). And this may be the equivilant to the Alpine mentioned here. So you may be able to convert with the correct cables. Maybe the folks at audio-etcetera.com can help you figure it out. They seem to have all kinds of cables.

Please let me know what you find out...I'd like to know if your part number is indeed the one that goes with the 1492. Thanks.

Yes, right you are, it is pictured with the 1492. I relied on my (aging) memory rather than looking carefully. Will post what I find out. Thanks again.
