bent antenna mast repair
It would not unfurl due to a bend at the base of the chrome. The dealer wanted $150 or 180 to replace for they diagnosed it as stripped gears. Not wanting to spend that on a glorified coat hanger, and yet not wanting a coat hanger or tin foil I figured this was there usual way of "fixing" things and took it apart. The gears were not stripped.
In retrospect I probably could have repaired it externally in moments. When it retracted it got bound in the small crease at the base. By carefully bending this back, and crimping with pliars it no longer clicks as the mid post gets lodged tight in bend. If you do need a new mast these can be purchased for I think about $20, and replaced fairly easily. Thought I'd post in case others face similar project. Now I can get in those groovy, under funded stations.
