Talking New System update

Ok, so far I have installed:

Alpine 9630 head unit (cd/mp3/xm....) - still have to install the xm receiver

Inifinity Kappa 50.5cs 5" back
Inifinity Kappa 52.5i 5 1/2 seperates front ( 5 1/2 door and tweeter in dash).

How does it sound? Like crap :p . Hopefully its that those speakers need an amp to run right

Anyway, was going to get a Punch 100x4 installed, but ran into the issue of the gas tank and lack of how to mount the amp on the backside of rear seat. PLanned on getting a piece of wood covered in trunk material mounted but lack of how to mount prompted me to forego said install for the time being ...

Wonder how u guys mounted amps like that?

That is exactly how my installer installed my two amps.

They cut a board to fit over the back wall of the trunk, covered it in black fabric, and attached the amps to it.

It's a very clean installation.

I have Kappas in several cars, and while they do sounds great, they tend to need a little more power. My Alpine CDA-9805 headunit makes 50W x 4 channels, and I'd say it's just barely up to the task. The newer Kappas with the seperate crossovers seem to be even more power hungry than the old (green) ones.

Yeah, but how did they attach that board? You have the top shelf and nothing on the upper back of seat to bolt that wood down. I though maybe with brackets? Bottom, you would probably have L backets, as again, there isn't much on the back to secure that board down... I just don't want an installer experimenting with my car. I want either for me to tell him how to bolt that wood backing down or for him to have down a w124 instsall previously or something similar.

btw, about time I get to see pics of your car sug... thanks LOL

I completed my install this weekend. My amp is mounted to a board as described, and I used the stock trunk liner to line the board. The board is held tight up against the gas tank by L brackets on the bottom screwed through the bottom of the trunk (nothing under there to worry about if you are careful, and be sure to seal the threads of the screws with RTV or something), and it is secured at the top of the board with pipe straps (metal) that run through the pass through cutouts where the wires all go into the trunk on either side, and screwed tightly down on the body just above where the rear seatbelt reel is mounted. I lost 1/4 inch in the trunk, but the trunk liners and carpet still all fit. When I get some time I'll write up everything and take some pictures.
