Here's a dealer in Nebraska (says this speaker is for the W124).
Which? Front or rear? http://premier-audio.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=77 |

http://www.distinctusa.com/products.html I've gathered the rear door speakers in the Kombi are 4". The "KX 100 Installer" has tabs. Will these work as drop-ins? They also make a 3.5" KX 87 Installer without tabs.... Or, should I just look for something completely different for the rears. IIRC, Scott at La Jolla recommended Eclipse for the rear. This is for a 1995 E320 Wagon with stock radio (active bass, yada yada...) |

Does anyone know the ones that go in the front doors?
I measured the rears with the specs on their site and the rears are the KX100, fronts must be the KX120. Once someone tells me the doors I'll be all set. Also, the tech data shows "with/without ring" so I wonder if they can be ordered without the tabs? Last edited by kwontumspeed; 11-21-2007 at 10:52 AM. |

One is a metal tab that slides under the dash and retains one end of the speaker. The other two are spring clips that snap into the dash and form a friction fit. Actually, looking at the picture of the KX120, it looks like it might have the arrangement that I'm thinking of. It doesn't seem to have mounting holes, and if you look just below the speaker lead pick-ups there's the metal tab that slides under the dash. |

That exact same tab is on the rear speaker that I'm holding as I speak, so I guess it can be said that we are certainly looking at the same rainbow model...
But the two silver tabs that are much larger, riveted in place, as at 4 & 8 o'clock if that tab is the origin at 12 o'clock - meaning that you cannot see them in this pick, which doesn't clarify if they are there or not. As simple phone call would answer that question. Either way, these look like the drop ins and if the silver tabs aren't there, it's only a few minutes to drill out this rivet from the old and tap a hole and remount on the new speaker, being careful not to hit the cone. |
