How about this one..

When trying to clean dust out of switchgear/vents etc.. try brushing along the offending item with a paint brush, closely followed by a vacuum nozzle. This way it disloges all the dirt then sucks it up.

Great tip, but here is something to add/consider when cleaning vents.

Years ago, in my 78 240D, after cleaning?, I had my vents pointed at me, and the blower motor going full blast.

It blew something at me, and it got in my eye. After several hours trying to dislodge it, I went to the hospital, and they tried to get it our but couldn;t. And then suddenly, voila , it dissapeared on its own!.

Lesson, try not to have the vents pointed at your face, and heed the above posting

I'm wondering if I should use any type of cleaner (Meguiar's #7?) or protector (Lexol Vinylex?) on the grayish black plastic of my vents, and similar surfaces on the dash area. I don't want to damage the paint on such things as vent knobs, etc. but wondered if anyone uses more than just a damp cloth for cleaning these (after brushing and vacuuming - good tip, Brian.)

Robert,
You can use a bit of Vinylex or the Meguiar's interior treatment on a Q-tip for the vents. BTW, the Q-tip dipped in #34 makes a killer treatment for where wood and plastic switches meet. Vinylex on wood is a real PITA.

Hope this helps...Lee

PITA is internet slang for "pain in the a**." Lee, thanks for the reply.
