Hello. Whenever I polish my car, I can't get all the excess off the car. And i am left this dull-looking spots all over. What has gone wrong? Am i using too much? I use 100% cotton poishing towels(not terry towel). Please help.

p.s. what happens if you have some excess polishing product left on your paint and you don't wash it for like a week. Can it damage the paint or the clear coat?

The only time I have seen cleaner or glaze refuse to come off was when I had some residue left over from claying my car with Meguiar's clay. The Meguiar's clay is way too soft and tends to rub off on the paint if it comes in contact with any paint that's not totally soaked by Quik Detailer.
Do these spots on your car feel a little rougher than other places? Can you hear a faint shhhh sound when you wipe your hand or a cloth over the spots?
The easy fix for me was to go over the same area with Clay Magic and then reapply the cleaner. You might try that.

hello again. The paint cleaner that I used is more like meguiar's swirl remover. It claims that it removes minor scratches and oxidation. Yes, the surface feels harsher after use. It won't come off easily. It seems as if I should wash my car again to get rid of dull looking spots. Should I reapply it to get it off? Thanks for your time.

Did you apply or otherwise work on the finish while it was in direct sunshine or hot from "heat soak" from the engine/radiator? If so that could be the culprit right there. You can try washing it but if you don't get good results by trying to buff off you may not get anything but streaks from washing. The products are really designed to be used on a clean, cool, dry surface. If you just have some stubborn oxidation in spots then multiple apply/remove cycles of the Meguiars is what works best. It is better to apply, work lightly, then remove than to apply the living crap out of one "coat" then try to remove it. You should notice some successive improvement after multiple application/removal cycles. Give that a try and let us know how it turns out.

Hope this helps...Lee

PS if the finish has had any dust, dirt, or road grime on it since you initially attempted the polishing you will have to wash it to keep from grinding crud into the finish hence causing damage. If it is just the lightest of dustings (say a car that has sat in a closed garage a day or two) you should be able to get away with liberal misting of #34 (aka Quick Detailer) then getting back to the polishing game.

Dear LEE,

I am always amazed by your reply. You really help a lot of people out there. Just want to let you know about the email I got from this Meguiar's guy. He told me that I used it too much. That's it. It sounded very simple. But, i have to admit I used it a lot~. Just want to keep you posted on this one. Thanks Lee.. See you again.
