Dupli-Color clear wheel coating on wheel and headlight covers?
Hello,
I'm having my '82 240D repainted next month, and am trying to save money by doing as much of the prep work and minor detailing as possible myself. When I got the car, it had one mismatched wheel cover, which has always kind of irked me. Three original metallic silver-blue covers, and one unpainted replacement. I picked up 8 wheel covers on Ebay, in assorted colors. I plan to strip the paint off them, polish them up, and give them a few coats of Dupli-Color clear wheel coating. A Google search for that particular product turns up a lot of satisfied customers, so I think it will work great, much easier and cheaper than trying to mask and paint them to match the car. Of course, I will set my original wheel covers aside just in case I ever win the lottery and want to restore the car to its original condition. I've also got a new pair of headlight covers, and I was considering giving them the same treatment. The Dupli-Color website says that the clear wheel coating will work on plastic, as well as metal. I'll definitely experiment on my old pair before I take a scuff pad to the new ones, but I'd like to know if anyone has used this (or any) kind of clear coat on the regular (US sealed beam) headlight covers before. I've seen the adhesive film products, and those look like they'd be a pain to cut and apply perfectly. Thanks, Nate
