First time wax for a oxidized car?
Finally bought a decent Dark blue 1985 300D. Paint has some pretty bad scratches maybe keyed, most have been filled with patch color, washed the car and it looked pretty good. But seems to have a hazy film over it? I started to get some wax and go at it but have no clue what to get? I have tried waxing a truck that looked similar but a little worse. tried waxing and it developed a glass smooth milky looking surface! not gonna chance it with this car, any help?

44Toy...go to the top of this page and click on the banner that says "check out the New Detailing DIY Articles". The click on the paragraph that says "polish". Read that page and see if that helps. I think you need to polish before you wax...they are not the same. You have some oxidation that wax won't remove, but polish may.
Hope this helps.

No you need a paint cleaner before you polish or wax.
Depending on how bad the oxidation is you have varying degrees of cleaner. I would try the hand paint cleaners first like the one Meguiars sells in stores and if that doesn't work for you then go for the commercial stuff and an orbital buffer. At this stage its better to get a pro shop to do it for you because you can cuase some damage if you do not know what you're doing with the orbitor. Someone here just posted their experience with oxidation in the last month...look for the thread. |
