Painted the old Bunts
Had a few extra hours Saturday so I jack standed the wagon and pulled the wheels. Degreased, degunked, wire brushed, car washed/sanded and wiped down with brake cleaner...got 'em really clean, but they still looked like crap.
Wife was painting my home office and sent me to Home Depot for more wall paint. While it was mixing, I started looking at the spray paints and got two cans of Rust-oleum Silver Metallic. I let the air of the tires, taped off the tires with newspaper, set up a heat lamp over a trash can (turntable) and blasted those puppies. I could stand in one spot with best light and the I think the heat lamp helped the paint flow out good...no runs. Sunday after church, I put 'em back on. I surprised myself! They look real good from three foot away or at 70 mph! Three hours, $10.47...I just love a cheap date! It has kinda inspired me. I'm thinking of painting the roof (crapped out clearcoat and eroded down to primer). Thinking about WHITE...a two-toned MB...Mini Cooper style! Just thinking....

Bundts
You can keep those newly painted wheels clean with a product called "Awesome". $1.00 a bottle at Dollar Tree stores. Great engine degreaser.

Sounds like a few hours well spent. I don't have experience with Rustoleum, but I just sprayed mine with Wurth Silver wheel paint, with Wurth Clearcoat over the top. This was an extra set, so I had time. I fixed some of the chips with bondo, and the wheels were off the vehicle. I think you'd want to go the clearcoat route as well, then let them cure and wax. I was surprised how good they came out.
BTW, may I borrow your wife... my home office needs painting too. I'd be happy to go out and get the paint. |

You REALLY need to clearcoat these or they will deteriorate very quickly.

Dupli COlor has a wheel paint I used on Rag Dolls wheels....supposed to hold up to the heat better.

I HATE rustoleum. Krylon (professional/Industerial) sprays so much nicer. Just be sure to get the cans with the blue spray nozzle, as they seem to work the best.
