I'm not sure I like the looks of that, but I am definitely getting squeaks from that area on all 4 doors. I will first try using squeak tape to isolate it, and if that works I'll remove the tape and put a thin bead of clear silicone on the mating surface of the door sill.

I found a mouse in my wagon (W123) this morning. It squeaked, I screamed.

If you have a gray interior, then the universal "Amurcan" fix-all works real good. Just stick a strip of gray duct tape on the bottom of the door panel.
It blends right in, stops the squeek, and you have done your duty for Truth, Justice, and the American Way.
Oh, be sure to use some bailing wire on those pesky exhaust hangers, too.

"Actually I'm serious about the duct tape. I tried it just to see if I could locate the squeek, and it turned out to be a good solution".
I tried all kinds of sprays, they lasted only a short time.
And, yes, I could have sworn the squeeks were coming from the upper dash, sunvisors, etc. But it was the lower door panels.

Cheers, Ya'll,
Wrench

Our old 300SDL did this too, it had a grey leather interior. Mostly it was from the door panels and the back seats. It was really annoying, and I always wondered about it. My W123 doesn't suffer from it at all. So the MBTex is a lot less squeak-prone?

Sorry to join late; my '86 420 SEL drives me crazy with squeaks, much worse when cold. I can't wait to check out the connection with the plastic door sills: from the sound, I believe you are correct. Thanks for the info. I have never noticed the seats causing trouble, though.

Well yesterday I took a closer look at the lower parts of the door panels and the areas where they rubbed the door sills were quite obvious, with a deep, shiny groove. I used about a 1-inch strip of anti-squeak tape for the entire length of each door, wrapping underneath the panel about 1/3 inch. After removing and treating the very noisy driver's seat back in a similar manner, the results are simply amazing - squeaky interior has been reduced by about 80%. The remaining noises are just some leather-on-leather squeaks, very minor, and the rear seatback squeaking against the C-pillar trim. I'll take care of those when I get a chance.

Due to the black color of the tape, and because I rounded the corners with scissors, it doesn't look half bad. My wife said it almost looks factory. And because of where it's located, very low under the pocket sill and wrapping around underneath, you can hardly see it. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

I have not done that to my car however - just not comfortable with cutting bits off my car.
I finally had enough of the noise! I took a sharp knife and cut off the plastic lip along all 4 door sills. Holding the knife vertically and tilted slightly in, I cut them off flush and it left a nice smooth edge. Trust me, if you do this you will never miss them, and the car is so much quieter now.

Answer:

I use Turtle wax on the suspect squeak area.

Have a great day.

And mine is still nice and quite, except for the drivers side door panal, it just started making noise last night. Maybe because it was cold, my car doesn't like the cold.

Where did you find metric duct tape? Was it expensive?

The answer to most interior squeeks is "KRYTOX" made by Dupont.

Look it up on their web page. It works like it says it does. I will attest to that.

Have an E320 Cabriolet and the car is squeek free. With the hood up it is deathly silent thanks to Krytox. Dont put any on the felt seals. They dont need it as MB designed these seals to not squeek using felt and should not be lubricated, just cleaned.

Oh and by the way VW sells Krytox as does GM and Volvo.

If you need the part numbers let me know. I don't work for Dupont.

Regards, Inspector.

Except for the outrageous price of this stuff!

How about this? http://www.finishlineusa.com/products/kry-tech.htm http://cgi.ebay.com/FINISH-LINE-KRYTECH-WAX-BIKE-BICYCLE-LUBE-4OZ-BOTTLE_W0QQitemZ150189089801QQihZ005QQcategoryZ27953QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'm going to see if the local bicycle shops have any. Waaaay cheaper than "pure" Krytox from what I can see.....
