Unhappy anyone done vinyl repair on MB tex seats

I have a 300cdt, and the back window (magnifying glass) has made the top of the back seats very brittle, and actually has caused an area that is split in many different ways.

Has anyone done a vinyl repair on these MB Tex seats...
?

I see on EBAY people selling Palamino spray paint which I will probably get for other trim pieces... I could get the vinyl repair and use the paint to get it close...

ANyone done a repair on a ripped MB tex seat...?

on the subject of mbtex repair, I was at Northern Tool today, and saw a plastic welding kit... it had rods of plastic in different types... about 60.00 for the kit... anybody used it?
it was called airless plastic welding kit...

plastic welders work real nice if you set them up right. in addition to the HF kit, get a regulator for the air pressure and a variable voltage supply for the heater. betwwen the air velocity tuning and the heater tuning you can set it up to do really nice welds.

I use a local franchise called Fibrenew. They have done several of my Mercedes and my Ferrari. They do really nice work. I have some before and after pics of my Ferrari if anyone wants to see them. The repair runs from $50 to $150 depending on the damage. I have no financial interest in the company, just that they do good work!

that looks good, but is that vinyl or is it leather? that looks like a simple dye job, not a tear repair.
looks very good though, is the color as much lighter as the picture shows? or is it just different lighting?

It's leather and the lighting is different. It's hard to see in the pic, but the seat was gouged fairly deeply. They also do a good job on vinyl. I accidentally jammed a soldering iron into the pillar of my SL320, and you can't tell where I did it after the repair. They are very good and warranty their repairs.

I used one of those cheap Permatex basic vinyl repair kits to fix a 3" tear in the drivers seat bolster on my 300D with black MB tex. Unless I pointed it out to you I don't think you would notice it. Simple and effective. I don't know if it would work so well on brittle sun damaged material though....

I've sown back entire vinyl panels in the SD. Of course they were black and the material was actually pretty easy to find at Hancock Fabrics.

I have a W123 with MB Tex seats in palomino. I got a small split in the driver's seat after leaving it as a garage and it is getting slowly bigger over time...ignoring it is not working.

I just wondered, since this topic is going on 3 years old, if there are any new DIY products or methods anyone would recommend? Especially considering that it's right on the seam.

Does this welder work on plastic dashes? My 2000 diesel ram dash is fubar.

Looks like they haven't really touched their site since 1997
