84 300D Rear Seat Headrests?

I bought an 84 300D last year and noticed that when I have my teenage kids in the back, what is a glaring deficiency is headrests that would prevent a neck injuruy in case of a rear end collision. They also looked very uncomfortable when asleep, compared to our van which has captain's seats. Does anyone know if there are any kits available for installing headrests for this era of MB?

There are a few W123's running around with rear headrests stock from the factory. Theres a good chance you could modify the rear seat back to reto-fit some W126 rear's in.

i installed them in my '79 300sd using a junk yard 450sel as a donor, the problem i can see you having is the inner bracket where the headrest attaches to, this bracket is removable and is not installed on cars that did not originally come with rear head rests, and the length of the brackets is different for various models.

I'm pretty sure it should be similar to the W201.

Here is 2phast's mod for his 190. Scroll down to where you see the headrest install.

it is different, because the headrests for the 116,123,126 attach to the rear seat back directly

RML,

Just curious if you took on this headrest installation project. I'd like to do the same for my 82 300D and would be interested to hear how it went for you.

Thanks,

Charlie

Charlie:

I have not added the headrests to date. There have been plenty of other maintenance projects to take priority. Besides, we have not been using the MB for family trips. It has become my daily commuter. My wife and kids prefer our van when we take a trip. It provides more room, especially since we have a dog.

Richard
