wood refinishing for 280SL, LA area

The dashboard of my 1969 280SL is disassembled for a new windshield so now is a good time to have the wood refinished. Searching through the archives it appears no one has taken this task on themselves as I could find no instructions. If someone has please send me a note.

I'd rather have it professionally done but can't seem to find anyone in the L.A. area. Does anyone know of someone who could do it quickly and with high quality near L.A., Calif? I found someone named William Rau on the internet, has anyone used him? I just want to have the two pieces on top of the dash done, the rest are still in good condition. Someone said just the two pieces would cost about $300. That sounds kind of high, is it a fair price? Look forward to your thoughts and suggestions.

Pete,

Here's the name and number of my wood guy; Ron Lawless, 626-797-0266 he is in Altadena.

He redid my ashtray, if you like I can show you his work. $300 sounds to be in the ballpark.

Eric,
Ron was the guy I talked to. Were you satisfied with his work? One problem is that Ron says it will take him 3 weeks to do it, but I haven't tried sweet talking him yet. I really need it done in this week if at all possible.

I'd be interested in seeing his work. Where are you at Eric?

Thumbs up Where are you? Hollywood...

Yes I was very happy with Ron's work, yeah he told me that it would take three weeks as well, but he had it done, within a week. I guess he likes to give himself a big buffer of time. Anyhow I'll drop you a e-mail with my phone number on it, so you can see his work.
