My recently acquired '96 SL600 has seat belts that are too short to be comfortable. I have sat in other MB sedans and their belts are longer. Is it possible that something has gone wrong with the automatic seatbelt tensioning system? Any thoughts on what could be the problem?

Are ALL the belts too short or just the driver seat? My seat belt got twisted once and it got jammed inside the spool. I had to keep at it for a while to get it to come out and untwist it.
