Headliner Sagging: suggestions?
i have a 1992 w124 400e with a sagging headliner. any suggestions as to whether to fix this one (ie, take it out, reglue with 3M spray, reinstall), or just buy another, and if the latter, any suggestions on where to get one?

headliner
Any good automotive upholstery shop should be experienced at handling that job and will recommend repair or replacement. I had this done on an old SAAB. If they can handle that car they should be able to handle a Benz.

I don't know what the back side of MB headliners. I tried fixing the one in my Lincoln several years ago. I reglued it with the 3M headliner glue, but it had a foam backing that had deteriorated from the heat. Ultimately, I had to pay an upholstery shop to replace it like Rocky said.

I've had a couple of headliner experiences, including with my CE. Except for duct tape, DIY fixes tend to be very temporary. Usually headliners come down for a reason. The back pillar covers are pretty temperamental, so removing those with the hope of putting the headliner back in order and putting the covers up is a little more difficult than it would seem. I'd recommend just getting it looked at early, and maybe they can save it, rather than needing a new headliner in short order.
I bought an excellent new headliner for the CE, which, according to the upholsterer who put it in, fit perfectly. I got it at World Upholstery, www.worlduph.com

My 95 E300 was saging after I had all the windows open and took a highway ride. I took it all down and used the 3M spray glueto reattach. It looks barley passable. The problem is that the foam degrades over time, and brakes away from either the headliner or the backing , and sometimes both. When you reglue it you can't get it smooth.
Not only that it's a pain in the ass to remove and repalce. If I ever get a new one I am going to have it profesionaly installed. I would rather fight a stuck glow plug than do that install again.

Yeah, I'm sure it's like most things: not hard to do, if you do it a lot.

Headliner
depressing.... po of my 1980 300SD gutted not only the sunroof parts but took out all of the foam backing and installed? if that's what you want to call it, some kind of diy headliner... constantly dropping down on my head. Looks like I'll be having one done professionally after reading this thread.

As it turns out the stealership will sell you a new brand new mercedes headliner assembly for about $350 (for a w124). Not bad. Install seems reasonable, if tedious. half the interior has to come out. local shops quoted $800 to do it

As I recall, the headliner replacement on my C230 during its last summer with me was about $200, parts and labor both.

I had the headliner in my Linclon replaced a few years ago. They just took out the old one and put in an entirely new one. That was only $180.00 if I remember correctly.
