Passenger Seat stuck

The passenger seat is stuck all the way back on the tracks. It will not move. 1989 190D. They are manual seats and the release lever won't release seat to move. Any ideas before I remove the seat from to get at mechanism.

I had a simular problem with my 240D seats. Mine was more like they wouldn't slide at all, or very roughly. It almost seemed like the release levers didn't work. I took out the seats to clean them. I cleaned the sliding rails and sprayed Wirth grease in them. Its a dry type of grease spray. They slide fine now. There was quite a bit of grime, hair, gum wrappers etc. in the slide rails after 20 some years.

Finally had good weather toady. Removed seat and cleaned rails. The grease was very thick and alot of grime. Lubed rails with light oil and wd 40 and reinstalled seat. WORKS like new. Thanks

Well, I hate to be the one to break the news to you but you need to pull the seat again. WD-40, light oil and grit equals grinding compound.

Pull it, clean the rails with soapy water or a degreaser, apply a white lithium grease or a dry lube and re-install.
