Anyone who's done subwoofer(s) in W123
Hey guys,
So I have been working on a stereo for my 1984 300D. The more I look into good car stereo design, the more I realize the W123 isn't necessarily the most optimal chassis for a custom stereo, but it is doable. The main issue is that there's really not any great place to mount the subwoofers in the interior, but then there is the metal wall and the fuel tank between the interior and the trunk. I was wondering if I could hear from anyone who had put subwoofers in there w123, and get some ideas on the bass response to expect. I know removing the first aid kit tray helps, and have already done that. I will be running two 12" MTX Blue Thunder subs, each in there own ported box, tuned to 40hz. Each will be getting 250 watts, RMS. I got separate boxes so that I could have more flexibility in terms of placement. I'm also putting butyl based sound deadener all over the trunk and over a good bit of the interior. But yeah guys, what kind of bass response have you seen? Thanks! |

As long as the trunk is vented to the cabin, the sound will flow freely. My w124 is similar with the gas tank placement. I have one JLw7-2 and one amp and it is more than enough.
At 500 watts rms, you wont be able to see out of any of your mirrors.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I meant to throw W124 in there too as they do have the same basic layout.
How much power do you have running to your JL Sub? Is in a ported or sealed enclosure? And when the bass levels climb, do you get that feeling of pressure on your skin? I know that's hard to explain, just curious. haha |

Well, just modify your question to one of appearance and you'll be fine . . .
