Rear Headrests Installed

Just thought I would share my rear headrest install with everyone. I bought this complete kit from member DeliveryValve, very complete nice kit and good guy to buy from.
Overall the install was very easy and turned out great, sure is nice to sit in the back seat and have the headrests back there!
Here are a few pics from the install and finished product.

As taken out of the box:

Brackets installed:

Eylets installed almost done:

Looks great! Thanks for posting this.

Yes as you stated, this should have been a factory no-brainer!

A lot of the W123's in Europe already have the rear headrests more often than not, compared to the "safety-conscious" US DOT that also mandated the 5-mph bumpers, but left out the rear headrests in the US W123s.

The nice thing about this modification, is that it does not seem like a modification at all. It purely looks like how it was supposed to be, even more so if the upholstery colors match between the rear seat and the headrests.

You can probably tell it's slightly off in my case

I haven't seen that many with head rests here actually. I think seeing pictures of your car was the first time I saw that they existed!

My experience has been different. Maybe I just got lucky with seeing W123's equipped as such in my travels.

You'll have to look around eBay for NOS units. The factory sunshades are NLA.

Pat do you know if the metal plate in the rear headrest is the same for all model years? I really want to use the headrests I have in the 240D which has the Batman headrests.

Most likely, no. I don't have an early style headrest with me to compare, but from what I recall the height from the base of the cushion to the top, measured on the center line, is smaller on the early style headrest, than on the later style. This to me means that the metal inside is different. Richard touched base on this a while back. However, it was inconclusive since there was no proof.

If you'd like to confirm, without ruining your nice early headrests, it may be possible to get a good cheap used early style headrest from the yard and open that one up instead. Or check the EPC part numbers for comparison.
