dash covers...
One I ordered from Performance Products seems OK, tho I haven't installed it yet. Did have one installed on my VW super beetle convertible, and recommend that you spend just a few bucks and get an upholstery place to install.

Billybob,
The photo shown does not have a hole for the sensor. The dash covers do come with the hole if needed. |

I would like to by one of these but not right now as I am moving. Are they readily availible? Is the $85 bid price a good deal? Where do I look? I got a price on installation of one here in LA for $150 but if I could buy one cheaper and go with TXBIlls suggestion that would be better.

availability...
As I've noted, these are available from Performance Products and from some other aftermarket vendors who advertise in The Star. If you are moving, chances are they will still be available in a month or so. See no problem in trying out the "unglued" approach, since if it doesn't work, you can always "install" it yourself or have it installed...this is not rocket science, so I would not pay more than a few bucks if some pro was to do it.

I bought one, when I went to put it on, found I would need to trim it a bit before it would fit....also found that the existing dashboard's cracks (which bend up) were preventing it from sitting flush to the surface....any ideas out there on how to remove these upward bending crack edges that don't involve cutting them off? I'd rather not widen the cracks if you get my drift...

I'll probably get one of these at some point because I have the blue dashboard which always seems to crack. I like the idea of laying it over rather then glueing. The question is how well do they fit around the AC vents? Do you have to trim the circles? My dash even with the cracks looks nice so I want to be careful before I #**k with it. My cracks are also raised up a teeny bit like Domchang mentioned in his post. I would think the only thing to do is trim them but I'll take any suggestion.

Thanks all!
I appreciate all that has been shared. I saw this and it looked interesting, it appears in the picture to be a fairly substantial piece. I would have thought that a "cover" would have been softer and thinner so that when it’s in place the dimensions of the dash would not change much? How thick are the ones that you guys have used? Are they a shell of stiff plastic or are they fairly soft? The ones in these pictures look pretty stiff. If somebody has had to trim one what is the exact composition? Layers?
I have a 126 so I e-mailed this outfit and they sell the 126's for $120 + $20 S/H. I've only got two small cracks in my dash leading from the corners of the speaker grills, but I figured that some type of cover would keep it from getting any worse. I don't like the carpet types and I don't need a showroom restoration either, I drive this car. I'm going to write these guys and try find out exactly what this thing feels like and such. I will also check out PP to see what they've got to offer and at what price. What about Fastlane or Partshop? I'm in no real hurry and if I'm lucky it looks like I just might have to fly down to Boca Raton, FL and drive a 1999 E300 Diesel back up to Cape Cod in April so I'll probably shoot down to Miami to take a look/feel before I buy anything. Then I'll start the 5, 6, or 7000 or more miles trip, by way of New Orleans, Dallas, LA ,Seattle, Chicago, New York, Raleigh, Lexington, Little Rock, Kansas City, Denver, Boise, Indianapolis, Nashville, Columbus, Buffalo, Montpelier, Boston and finally home. By the way did I mention the owner's admonition "Take your time !This car gets such great mileage I'll cover the fuel costs!" ![]() ![]() ![]() |
