how many coats of paint?
I have a 94 E320....had the two drivers side doors damaged this past winter
was replaced with two new shells (door frames) and repainted living in rochester, ny we have our share of salt on the roads...i have noticed a small rust spot forming and was kind of shocked because in the past I have only noticed a small rust spot on the passenger side and that only was visible since the last two years so how many coats did the factory spray on my car? trying to figure out why there is a rust spot :-( -ren |

I think 7 or so-2 primer, 3 color, and 2-3 clear (unless it's a single stage paint, then 4-5 coats

The paint is not the problem.
The metal gets treated at the factory with an acid dip and a zinc chromate rustproofing layer before it hits the paint booth. The replacement parts may not get a similar treatment, so they may be more prone to exposure.
