My auto supply guy asked me what I was using to wax my car. I told him - Meguire's Gold Class - the best stuff out there. I am very happy with the shine and depth of shine. He asked me if I wanted to make it way better. I scoffed. So he made a deal with me - he would sell me the product and if I was not impressed - it was on the house. How could I lose?? The product? Meguire's Show Car Glaze. Simply apply and buff off - car looked the same. But when I put a coat of Meguire's Gold Class on it - WOW!!!! - The car was a mirror!! The side of the car was so shiny you would swear it was a piece of polished glass it was so reflective at one angle all you could see is reflections and no paint color! The hood was so shiny - you could pick out the small wisps of clouds floating in the sky on it! Am I impressed - VERY!!!!!!!!
By the way - Meguire's Show Car Glaze is sold in their professional division - not retail. WOW - WHAT A PRODUCT!!

I've heard really good things about #7 Show Car Glaze and I'm not suprised with your results.

One thing to mention, the glaze is only meant to last about 7 - 10 days since it's oil based, although I'm not sure maybe it will last longer by adding the Gold Class on top and sealing it?

with the results it gave for the effort extended - I would be willing to glaze and wax every 2 weeks. One bottle should be good for about 5-7 applications.

Right on, I like your attitude! I'm the same way when it comes to keeping the car looking nice. Takes a little more effort but the results are always worth it.

BTW can you post a few pics?

took a few shots with the digital camera - I was so impressed. I have to go out of town this week for a funeral but will compress and post pix next week. Anyone who appreciates a perfect shine should spring for it - they won't be disappointed!!!

On my 87 300E, I use the #7, followed by the #20 polymer product, followed by Gold class. A pic of how it turns out is below in my signature.

I didn't know you use #7.

For those that haven't had the pleasure of seeing Johns car in person, yes it is original paint and yes it looks that good in person too!

Hey John, is it the 300E that you applied this to?

I think I'm going to give this combo a shot.

How hard was it to remove #7?

Is it just like Mike Phillips described in the training session he gave us? Do you let it dry (or skin), rub it down once, and then go over it a second time with another towel?

I've read in a post of his in autopia.org that polymer sealant needs a day or so to "set up" so that the long polymer chains have time to form. Did you do any waiting before putting down Gold Class?

Even though Meguiar's chemist, Dr. Pennington, says that Meguiar's products cannot be layered, Mike Phillips regularly puts products on top of other products. Do you think that Gold Class is actually layering on top of the Polymer Sealant, or do you reckon it is only obliterating the coat of Polymer Sealant?

I have been using the #9/#7/Gold Class combo since I joined the forum, as described in Lee's detailing FAQs in the DIY section. #7 is a pain to work with until you get the technique down (Small amount of product applied, remove it 2 or 3 times!). Lately I have added the #20 polymer sealent after the #7, before the gold class, with about a days wait between these two steps. Actually, I usually wash and clay one day, prep/de-swirl the second, polish on the third day, Polymer on the 4th, and gold class on the 5th day, then spend the 6th day on the interior (The 7th day is Miller Time). The waits are mostly because it is hard for me to find more than a couple hours/day to spend on the finish, but I also seem to recall Mequiar's recommending a wait between the Polymer and Gold Class steps.

One thing I have noticed: Since I have started adding the polymer step on the car that spends all the time outside (White Celica GTS), bird mess and tree sap problems are a lot easier to clean up, and paint stains seem to have been diminished considerably.

What is the color of your car that you used the #7 on? I have a pearl black car that is a @#$%^ to wax.

John has a smoke silver 300E, looks mint!

I also have a Pearl Black 500E which lived all it's life in the greater Seattle area until I purchased it last year. Here are a few things I've done to get my paint looking good. Begin with a complete clay job on your paint including the lower plastic cladding and your wheels! Once you've completed the claying process I would recommend a polish like S100 Shine Enhancing Paint Cleanser which can be purchased at a Harley Dealer. Follow up with Meguiars Gold Class Wax. Wax every 3 - 4 weeks to maintain the paint. Check my www for some pics. It's a time consuming job but when it's done it's easy to maintain.

I wish I could help you but my stay in Washington was brief. If you really don't want to do the job yourself I can call the dealer where I bought my car and ask them who they recommend.

Before you consider this option I will say that I personally feel that if you could set aside one day you could get the job done better. I can walk you through the steps if necessary, they're all easy and can be done by hand. Let me know.

Jay - mine is dark smoke pearl gray metallic. I know what you are talking about with black - it can be a &^%$# in the butt to get nice. If you have swirls that won't buff out (like my wife's VW black Jetta) Meguire's swirl remover works wonders - then try the #7 and Gold class - I think you will be amazed! By the way - I am lazy - I use a random orbital polisher - much quicker and easier on the old elbows!
