Griot's Best of Show.

Great wax, nice clarity - multiple applications are brilliant and last almost 6 months. Fairly difficult to remove (have to constantly turn to new section of towel to buff off completely, repeat with another perfectly clean cloth, repeat)

Regards,
- Ryan

I use Meguiars Gold Class and love it. It doesn't last more than 3 months but its depth and clarity really brings out the quality of the MB paint.

I did a direct comparison with Zaino side by side on my hood and you could clearly see a deep dark line on the Meguiars side. I recommend you use it with Final Detail available at automotive body shop supply stores.

wax

I have been using Zymol products since my car, a black (040)1994 E320 Stationwagon, was new, and have been satisfied with my results. I use their "concours" wax about twice a year, as well as their other products. I especially like their "tyre" preparation. It leaves a soft, satiny finish, and not the shiney wet finish of other products. Just my experience.

I used Zaino on my...

'95 S500 this summer. Wow, what a great job it did.

It is still looking great even after all the snow we've had this winter here in the northeast.

I can't wait to get at it again this spring.

Don't laugh too hard, but what do you all think about Turtle Wax? I got some Turtle Wax liquid wax, along with some chrome polisher, on a whim I haven't used it yet, but since I have it, is it at least okay to use without damaging anything?

This'll be my first attempt at using a liquid wax; I tried a cake-type wax once, with borderline disasterous results so I'm a bit nervous...

I used Turtle Wax for awhile, then switched to liquid Gold Class. Turtle Wax (the emerald class stuff) wasn't bad, but I like the ease-of-use better with the Gold Class - it goes on a little bit easier, buffs off much easier, and holds a nice shine. Course, some of this might be because I went from a paste to a liquid..

A couple other tips:

-Use a clean applicator (foam or 100% cotton).

-You don't need much, just enough wax to lightly coat the surface. Only a thin layer will stay on the paint anyways, the rest is just extra buffing.

-Don't let the wax stay on too long, then it really becomes a chore, and it will leave uneven spots unless you were able to apply a VERY even coat. Do a quick buff when you can run a finger across it without streaking, then come back a few minutes later for a final polish.

-If your paint is really "tired," prepping it with paint polish first might be a good idea. It will take a couple rounds to get the gloss up, but it does help.

Good luck!

A past issue of Consumer Reports had an article on car wax. It told about some car wax that scratch the paint, some last a long time, others have the best shine, etc. No wax was perfect. I think that the article was about a year ago. You would have to go to the library and have them get out the past issues for you. It's worth the effort, though.

In the consumer report test, the best one was Zymol ( the one that you can buy in auto store) liquid.
