Question Removing gloss finish on hoses

The previous owner of my 380sl had the engine bay of my car detailed. At the time this was done the detailer used an aerosol product he called engine "Engine Seal" when he finished cleaning. This product has left a high gloss finish on the hoses.I want to enter this car in some shows and I dont know if points would be deducted for the gloss on the hoses.Does anyone know a method to remove this gloss finish without changing the hoses?

I don't know if it will work, but you might try laquer thinner. I used it to remove the made in USA labels on my hoses, at the suggestion of a couple of judges.

Uh-Oh, Not good

If the gloss was developed by applying a product having silicone in it then that would be a bad thing. When I purchased my car I was able to confirm that many different products were applied to the hoses. They had a hard/brittle yellowish coating that would not come off and was cracking all over the place.

For POM I decided to just replace all the hoses before my first show. Make sure you buy Mercedes hoses with the Star on them. This is one of the items checked for authenticity when a car is being judged. Afterwards just wipe them down periodically with a damp rag. Apply no chemicals.

Good luck - art
