Brake Calipers: 300D TurboDiesel
Hi! I have used this forum in the past with excellent results, so I am thanking everyone who will respond to my question in advance. I am a hobbyist mechanic but, with the assistance of an experienced friend, I am going to replace the front brake calipers in my 1984 300D TurboDiesel (which are leaking brake fluid and my brakes are becoming mushy). My friend told me to just call the local parts supplier (AutoZone) in Melbourne, Florida and get some remanufactured calipers. Here's my question. From looking at the calipers, I can't tell if they are Bendix or ATE - all I see on them are the MB logos. If I am replacing both, does it make any difference if I get Bendix or ATE? Will either fit on my car? Any suggestions, advice or help is greatly appreciated. Bob

I'd say that replaced in pairs any manufacturer will be alright IF you get all the hardware. The pins that hold the pads in the Bendix calipers have hairpin clips holding them in. The Ate have spring bands built into the pins that expand in a relief in the caliper to retain them.
