W123 Rear hatch door trim 300D vs. 300TD
I was an idiot and backed into the HUGE EXTENDED rear bumper of a ford pickup who's bumper has no business being that high to begin with......
![]() ![]() Is this straight piece an identical match to the 300D? Fastlane doesn't seem to have it that I can find. Does anyone have an extra/spare they want to sell? I will post on the parts forum once I identify if the part is identical for the W123 300D(trunk) and 300TD (hatch) Many thanks in advance for any advise. -Chris

They are the same length - The match is pretty good - I do not know for sure if they are the same - I have switched from the original to one from a 4 door sedan (300D), and then one from a 300CD. The back side of the trim has screw plastic blocks that slide. Steve

Thanks, but a tool?
Since you've done the switch a couple of times, what tool(s) do you use to remove and pop back on?
Does anyone have a source to obtain one? I don't know of any junkyards in Northern NJ that are pick and pull.

I may have a spare of you wind up needing one. I have two hatches (one was really rusty) and would be glad to pass along the unused trim; let me check what kind of shape it's in. If you find out that a sedan trim is identical, let me know and I won't bother digging it out.

If you would be so kind as to do some digging to get that trim piece, it would be greatly appreciated. The consensus seems to be that they are one and the same. Any advise on prying mine off would be appreciated. I was thinking of making a tool. Any suggestions, pics? -Chris (another one)

I'll see if I can find it... it's probably in the pile of Mercedes parts in my FRONT FOYER (under one of the two pieces of hatch glass, adjacent to the intake for my Mustang but behind the throttle body assembly, most likely). And I wonder why I don't have a girlfriend.

The sedan had screws on the inside of the trunk. I am not sure how the original trim piece was fastened - the sedan trim can go on with screws from inside the hatch.

I use a flat dull knife to get under the trim, pry it out carefully starting at one end, pulling as you go across.
I haven't seen any screws in the trim on the rear, I believe its identical to the side trim that uses the red plastic grabbers, they go into the holes in the panel first the nibs on the trim then fit into the grabbers. I have used spray adhesive on the flat side of the trim that goes against the panels, esp the front trims that curve inwards, they tend to pop out otherwise. As far that seller on eBay Mercedes991, they are not to be trusted ![]() Just look at the total number of negative ratings they have, 86 people bothered to leave negative feedback, doesn't indicate a trend? DDH
