Just removed Tranny (need advise)
I finally got the tranny of my '84 300DT into my brother's car (mits mirage '98 sick of driving it).
Now I need some advise. Some say that since my tranny failure occured all of a sudden that it could be a torque converter problem. But when I bled my torque converter the tranny fluid that came out of there looked healthy and free of any shrapnel. I also dont think that it was a vacuum problem because there was no rough shifting. Is my best bet to replace the whole thing cuz I found some trannies in town f/ $400 w/ about 90k? Or should I go with the popular conversion, but my concern w/ that is that it looks like there is a lot of fabrication and modification to do that. Will a manual tranny of an '84 300DT bolt right up to mine? Furthermore are there any other manual trannies off of a w123 that bolt right up to mine. any input welcome. Also thanks to all of those that replied to my previous posts becuase I would not have been able to remove the tranny w/out them. almadroog |

Remember, with a manual tranny conversion, you've got clutch work also.

Since my 240 came w/the manual setup, the big fabs for me are: Shorten driveshaft " shift rods mod. tranny mount resurface flywheel swap adaptor plates on the engine. No biggie, just TAKE YOUR TIME. Enjoy the experience. ![]() Your case would also involve transferring the clutch pedal assy and hydraulics. Oh, and be sure to clean the engine compartment really well while everything is easy to get at. |
