How much will this eBay 300D go for?

Dear Diesel Demons:

I'm curious to hear what you guys think this 1984 MB 300D Turbo Diesel will top out at. Will it hit 16K or better?

All best,

DieselFitter

I can't tell you if it will hit 16k, but I sure wish I had the werewithal to find cars in this condition, the way Mr. Phillips does. This is the same guy that had the exact 300SD that I wanted on Ebay.

I watched that car right up until it was taken off the market due to a local sale. It was already over $7500 when that happened.

Herbert seems to have the nicest MB diesels in the world....I think the guy has a time machine and goes back into time, buys the cars, loans them to people to keep in good shape, then picks them up back here....

Man.....sure wish I could have gotten that other SD....

You're correct. You were the closest. I bought it for $9,800 and now have to get it shipped to its new home. The color is either the same or quite close to my '87 300TD.

Wow, I think I now know I got a good deal on mine. If I didn't know it was another I'd think this was mine. He mentioned the dash was re done. The only flaw mine has that this one doesn't right now is the dash has some cracks. Doeas anyone know how to go about re doing this? I think I'll get mine detailed real nice and take some pictures to compare with this one.

He says he thinks the car is worth over $16,000. I know this is highly debatable among some forum members but that seems really high to me. After all, the car is 20 years old and has 120k miles on it. Though it looks immaculate now, drive it for 30,000 miles and I bet the engine and underside won't be nearly that clean. It's still a great car and I'm sure it would easily fetch 7-8k or maybe a little more but after that it seems like you are really paying a lot. Just my thoughts.

Where will it top out?

Well, it's a "no reserve" auction, so the final price will be determined by what two individuals are willing to pay for it. That sort of decision is very, very personal, so who knows? Last time I checked, they weren't making any more of these.

I see from the description that the car, "recieved (sic) its first 800-1000 mile inspection at Mercedes Benz of Kundendienst , Germany 1984". I guess I'm not familiar with the town of Kundendienst - I thought that was German for "customer service"!
