Diesel for BMW???

Does anyone know if BMW plans to market a diesel in the U.S. and if so, when?

I have an interest here because I used to drive a 524td (there's a thread on that around here somewhere). They sold it in 1984 and 1985 and, per my understanding, stopped because they considered diesels inconsistent with their performance positioning.

A few years ago while in Frankfurt I saw a great diesel stationwagon at a BMW dealer and actually considered trying to bring one over; then I remembered the rareness of the 524td and lost interest.

I did see a diesel VW Toureg on an auto show recently and they said it was big and powerful. $7000 more than the gas version and, overall, $70000.

Oh, I have no idea about your question.

Touareg TDI. Mmmm Touareg TDI. 300+ hp, huge torque. Something like 30+ mpg.

Wouldn't diesel make more sense for the X5 and X3?

I have read some great reviews of the diesel 3, 5 and 7 series in CAR, a British magazine. They especially liked the 330d - deeming it something like "the best car for the real world". It's a shame that most of the german diesels never make it over here. I'm ready to make the switch from the 300E but there are such few choices of newer (2-3 years old) cars.

Talking Diesel B.M.W.

The 524td was (excluding the cam drive belts) excellent.

B.M.W. will offer a one year warranty on ANY vehicle imported into U.S.

They put a wonderful inline six compression ignition in the X-5 in
Greenville before they ship it overseas.

On your hands and knees Amerikaner (at the gate to the Greenville plant
with nasty old cash in hand)
