Amsoil Pre cleaner

I am getting ready to change to synthetic for the first time. I notice that Amsoil sells a treatment that you run for 15-20 minutes before changing out the old oil.

Good idea or snake oil? Seems like several people on this list like Amsoil products. Anyone use or recommend this?

I don't think I would use it but I would plan on changing the first batch of synthetic a little early on an older engine since it probably will disolve any crud that may be in there...... I doubt there will be much if you've been using a C rated oil and changing it regularly. When I changed to Amsoil in my truck I didn't use the pre-treatment stuff, just changed the oil.

Caution!!!

With aircraft engines, it is generally considered unwise to switch to synthetic oil unless the engine is relatively "low time." Since synthetic oil does such a good job of keeping things clean, it can break loose a lot of crud in an older engine, which can block oil passages and wreak other havoc. The same principle should apply to any engine.

The container says it basically does that with the oil you are about to remove. So you get more crud out with the dino.

Hatterasguy, dream on. I am not that far behind you. And I have a few road trips coming up. :p

Just change the oil when its good and hot. That'll get most of the crud out. I have switched all my vehicles over to synthetic at high mileage without issue. Go for it. Much easier winter starting. RT
