Thumbs up Happened upon 87 300D for sale...cheap

Passing by, my attention was drawn to the 87 300 D sitting in the far end of a cheapo used car lot, I quickly slowed and turn in. It was smoked silver with lt. tan interior. The car was unlocked so I popped the hood for a look-see. All of the aluminum had a petina of light corrosion, a few cobwebs, leaves, etc.

First thing I noticed was some of the vacuum hoses were off, including vac amp to trans. I thought, well this will bang! Next, pulled the dip stick and the heavy black oil was about 1-1/2" above the full mark! eww! The coolant overflow tank was clean and with a clean green hue from the sunlight shinning through. It had the #14 head, and had rid of the trap some time ago. Next I sat in the drivers seat and looked around. Glued to the zebrano below the climate buttons was a quarts clock, figuring the dash clock probably didn't work anymore. The odometer read 202K.

With some cleaning I thought, the seats, dash, rug, headliner, all were in excellent condition with no blemishes. Looked at the jack-inserts and all except the right front ( just beginning) were rust free, no dents, paint was OK.

The trunk lid around the back perimeter showed that there had been duct tape of some sort and probably leaked but the trunk was dry, maybe the latch had not worked recently! The underbody was rust-free and exhaust looked OK.

All in all, not real bad, and appeared to be worth a much closer look, and with a test drive. The windshield is marked $2,495

I contemplated all the way home this morning, should I ??? maybe!!! Na........

Car is located north east coast...........Steve..........

Close! Also happened across a beat 87 300 TD with about the same mileage but $3500.

The first one is located in Hyannis, Ma. The other in Wareham, Ma. If anyone is interested, I can get the phone number tomorrow.

Recently, I saw listed in a local want ad another 87 300 TD with 60K replacement engine claiming all to be in good condition for $2000. I posted that one friday night but nobody responded!

I usually stop when I see a benz for sale, also looked at a 75 240 D with factory lime green paint with avacado interior! Had less than 100K After sitting in it for about 30 sec, bee's had me out'a there in a flash!!!

I'm lookin for something to toy with and really like the old 240 D's I may make an offer on that car!
