Noisey Clutch Engagement - Motor Mounts??

My 1982 240D is getting progressively noisier during starts...especially those on a hill or where I want to get going in a hurry. There seems to be no slippage, just a loud vibration (metal to metal) noise. Could this be bad motor mounts. I think I had one changed about 5 years ago, but can't remember changing any of the others. I have noticed the same type noise on deceleration...was beginning to think it was an exhaust leak, but now I am thinking that this is also motor mounts.

Also could be your U-joints or the clutch release bearing, lift up your car on a ramp and thoroughly check out the U-joints.
