How difficult is it to change to manual from an automatic ?

Hey...

Wondering how difficult and how long it would take to achieve such a task ? I saw a couple of detailed threads on that subject but it did not say how long it would take. I can get my hands on a car that has been sitting for 7 years that is exactly like mine except a manual.

Thanks

We don't know how fast you work....
but having an exact whole car that matches yours is the best of all possible worlds...

Are you on vacation?

You will need to pull engine and tranny, swap complete if you can, else you need to change the flywheel or modify it to match (auto to manual is easy, I believe you only need the pilot bearing, manny to auto is a pain). Clutch pedal and master cylinder will need to be hung on the pivots (already there, I believe), the hole for the clutch line is already in the floor with a plug in it.

you will need to change the driveshaft, I believe, since the manny tranny is somewhat shorter than the auto. Else a direct swap.

you will need to swipe the shifter, too.

I have a manual shift 300D and if it were an automatic I would not bother to convert. You would be doing this project for the exercise and not for the results. Just my opinion, I may be wrong.

Drive your car like it is and enjoy it. When you want another car, buy one like you want. If your transmission were broke and you needed another, that may be different.

Hello from the Hard Drive Cafe on the shore of Moosehead Lake in Greenville, ME. And yes I am driving the 300D, up from Mobile, AL.

Nearly everyone here has done the opposite -- auto to manny tranny.

Only a few have done this, it's a bunch of work and will take at least a couple weeks if you have a job, too.

Because it never occured to me that one would want to change from Manual To Auto.... I read your original post backwards....
If you don't like your manual trans sell the whole car and get a car with the auto trans working fine...
Plenty of people interested in buying Manual cars to get away from the MB Auto trans...

Changing

kamil,

We recently made the conversion on my son-in-laws 300D and it took us one day but we'd assembled all the parts before hand and this is about the fifth conversion that I have done personally.

He wants to change "to manual, from an automatic" , Greg. It's just written funny. I did the same thing when I first read it.

The most difficult part is changing the 12 in the chassis number to a 10.

so basically if I have another car that I will be taking all the parts from then it should be no problem ?

I'm really debating if I should do this at all...... It should not be that tough, I hope
