High speed shimmy solved?
My 83SD had high speed shimmy (>75 MPH), and can be felt through the steering wheel. This has bugged me for quite some time, but don't know exactly what is wrong. There are so many things which might cause it, such as out of round wheel, tire, alignment, suspension parts, etc., etc.. I figured one of the tie rod boot is showing signs of cracking, might as well start from there.
I was changing the tie rods, and by chance, found the inner brake piston on the driver side is sticking. Repaced it with a rebuild one. I took it for a high speed spin. Quess what, the shimmy is gone. The car just barreling down the highway, very nice. I have replaced the tie rods and will take it for an alignment. Have my finger crossed.

i wouldnt have it alingned just yet. wait till you get everything replaced. or if its pulling or wearing tires badly i would have it aligned and then when you replace the tie rods, guide rods and any thing adjustable like those count the threads and tighten the new ones to the same as the old ones.

I have a high speed shimmy too, but I am thinking and hoping mine is tires. The dealer I bought it from never checked tire pressure before releasing it. The delivery driver drove it home 1000 miles with less than 20 lb pressure in 3 tires DUH! the tires have a noticeable chop on the road when I drive at normal speeds. The wheel wobbles slightly at 60 mph.. Indy
