New 300SD owner: Redline Diesel Fuel Catalyst & Redline 85???
Redline Diesel Fuel Catalyst & Redline 85???
I recently bought a car I LOVE, a 1985 300SD. I have now driven it about 600 miles, adding to the 224k it had when I got it. I was told by a friend with a 79 300D to religiously use Redline DFC or Redline 85 in my fuel. He suggests starting with a full bottle at fill-up and then about a couple of ounces on each fill up. He says it will quiet engine, and reduce or nearly eliminate smoke. The car, which is very clean, seems to emit a puff of smoke on start up, and when briskly accelerating from a dead stop, but that's about it. My questions are: • Should I use this stuff? • Will it reduce smoke and smooth engine operation? • I've heard it can cause injector leaks...true or false? • If I use it, should I use the Redline Diesel Fuel Catalyst or the Redline 85 on my 85 300SD? All advice welcome! I don't think my car has any issues, but my friend says it's just good preventive maintenance to use this additive. Is he right? Thanks All! |

Opinions on additives are all over the map, and you won't find a consensus here. Try running with and without it. If you like it, use it. As far as the two Redline products, they are exactly the same. There used to be a difference, but there isn't anymore.
