Boost performance

Is there any way to boost the performance on a 240D,1983,with a recently
rebuild motor, replacing the air filter with a K&N maybe...these are very simple
engines I guess one can try different things on a healthy motor, any ideas?

Try going down hill or giving it a push.

Just kidding!
I'm sure there are ways such as changing the rear end diff and adding a manual transmission.

yank the 4 cylinder boat anchor and put in a RB26 from a Nissan Skyline, twin turbo and about 300HP stock, and easily modded for about 1,000 reliable HP.

That will make the 240D scoot.

But it won't be a diesel any more.

Easiest way to boost the 2.4L diesel is to add propane injection. Easy and cheap!
