I'm sorry too, but I don't like it either. The styling says "It's the Touareg of the retirement home."

But for all I know, it may be a very well built vehicle, it's just the styling I don't care for. What's with Buick and bringing back the portholes on the fenders on their new models? What's next, MB goes retro and puts front quarter windows on the next gen. C-class and puts Heckflosse style fintails on the next gen. E-class?

As far as your comment that they don't have Lexus in Guatemala because they're just Toyotas, I don't know if you've kept up with the news lately, but if you have, you'd know that Lexus and Toyota are now two separate automotive divisions. There's no such thing as the Toyota Celsior, Altezza or Soarer anymore, they're all Lexus branded vehicles now with no ties to Toyota.

Again, you have no personal experience with these cars. From what you've written, it looks like you've never riden in or driven one. You cannot just go by looks and call the leather cheap just because it looks like it.

I'll use this analogy, you saying it's a cheap car just by looking it at is like those people who think all 1980's MB diesels are slow, loud, stinky, polluting, high-maintainence and constantly belching black smoke. They're totally ignorant about the facts, and have never driven or owned or riden in a MB diesel in their life. You can't say anything about it until you've experienced it personally. That's like me calling your mom's Passat TDI a POS because it probably has a lot of electronic components and computers in it I would not care for and I would think would fail often given this era of declining automotive quality we live in. But, I have no experience with VWs, so what gives me the expertise to say that?

I know this is a MB forum, but I can't just sit here and have someone state false information as fact about a non-MB vehicle that I have personal experience with.

(Done ranting).

P.S.

To get back on subject and end this thread hijack, I wouldn't want to be caught in a Trabant.

Yes but you talking about the latest lexus's what he described is a 1995 LS400 that was back when they were toyotas with gold lexus badges and called it luxury! the 1995 LEXUS ES300 in guatemala that i saw was called a toyota camry hmm well look at the styling they look almost the same with but the difference is the lexus badge! same engine same leather. Maybe now yes they are different 2 seperate motor divisions like infinity is part of nissan but has a totally different style.

BUT Older lexus's were toyotas with lexus badges, newer ones ok ill give it to you they arent overpriced toyotas but the old ones were.

EDIT: by the way i have been in one. My friends dad bought a use ES300 cheap. He is a big toyota guy.

from that angle

it kindof reminds me of a pacer wagon.

i always had a soft spot for the pacers. i liked the lines but thought that they were a little bloated looking.

Cough you guys need to get your facts straight:
1. Lexus was developed only for the North American market, because they though and as VW proved no one in this country will pay big bucks for a low end badge. So Lexus was born.

Some Lexus vehicals are tarted up Camry's and deserve the crap they get, like the ES330. However some Lexus vehicals are Lexus only in this country and very expensive and high end in the rest of the world. LS430, SC430, GS series ect.

If you think they are junk pull your head out of the sand, no one that actually knows anything about them would make statements like that.

I am a die hard German car fan and rag on Lexus all the time, but I also give credit where it is due. The LS400/430 in paticular is the equal to any sedan anyone makes. Heck they are quiter on the highway then W140's and W220, without double pain glass.

A Hummer.

Driving one of those on the pavement is like showing up to a dinner party in full SCUBA gear. Totally out of place.

ive honestly never fealt like less of a man because my car was a purple ovary on wheels. these images were taken last spring-- 130k on the car. doesnt look like its falling to pieces yet, eh?

its a better car than a w123 diesel. quieter, more economical, more reliable, more comfortable and actually has a factory air conditioner and radio that 1) you can hear over the loud engine and 2) will actually cool you off-- not just dry the sweat on your forehead whilst your ass and back sweat profusely until you reach your destination.

if ever i had to pick the most inelegant, least liked feature of the benz, it'd be those damned vinyl seats-- hot in the summer, cold in the winter.

i know the aforementioned attributes are terrible and all, but ive gotta take offense at the statement; the neon was a good little car that never lived down its teething problems(head gaskets and peeling paint) eventhough they were addressed in the late 1st generation models.

a car i wouldnt like to be seen in?

any general motors car designed in the middle 80s and sold well into the 90s( lumina, corsica and all of their twins.. if i listen them all, i'd double the size of this post) they werent bad at anything, but they sure as hell werent good at anything, either. just mediocrity on wheels, and i cannot live with that.

if i am going to spend money on something(and being a car guy and all) its going to do something really well for not a lot of money. it needs to be handsome, quick, reliable or just plain cool and i dont remember ever thinking a cutlass, be it a ciera, calais or supreme, was cool.

I try to live my life such, and have tried to teach my kids to live their lives such, that it just doesn't matter if you're seen driving any car.

I look at it this way, I don't care what I'm seen driving in, but where I am seen driving. I just don't go places where I would be ashamed of myself to be seen there. It doesn't matter if I go there riding a Jenny as long as it is a respectable place to be.

Have a great day,

No toyota/lexus bashing

Stop the toyota bashing! -92 Corrola 150K miles before it needed a part(other than brakes battery tires, normal wear and tear stuff) The timing belt broke on it and the engine was at exactly top dead center so the engine was not runied. We put a timing belt on it and the timing did not need to be set. it was perfect. We also have a 1990 Camry with 300K on the v6 gasser with the orignal engine and Tranny.

Good point

excellent point. Buick might be the best american car made. They have kept the same engine (3.8 liter v-6) as there main engine for 20 years and have worked the bugs out of them. I often saw 85-95 lesabres and park avenues in excess off 250 K while i worked at autozone.

AMC Pacer and Gremlin are tempting choices but I will pick a red sun bleached Ford Pinto wagon since I have not seen it come up yet. I have hated these since the mid seventies...

Might be something here you wouldn't want to be seen in.

Might not. Some really fun stuff, and a marvelous collection.

How NOT to buy a MB Diesel:
Know little or nothing about diesels or Mercedes Benz.
Get the WVO fever.
Drive 70 miles to a used car lot in the country.
Buy the car without having it inspected, because it seems like a good idea at the time....
I'll be back. I'm gonna need help.
I love this car already!
