losing my prime
603 engine .replaced seals on injection pump for #3 cylinder.now injection system seems to be losing its prime making it almost impossible to start.no fuel spillage when unions are opened at the injectors.any one else been down this road?

You probably have cracked fuel lines at the suction side of the lift pump -- flex them and look for small cracks. If you see any, replace the hoses. You will need a pair of plier to hold the clamps while you unscrew them.
Replace all you can reach, and check the fuel thermostat for the presence of fuel on the outside -- if it leaks any, the o-rings are shot and need to be replaced, all the fuel will leak back into the tank when it's not running, making for VERY hard starts. To prime you must crank, there is no hand pump on these. Crack injection lines, hold pedal to the floor, and crank until no more air comes out at the cap nuts on the injectors. Big PITA if you ever run it out of fuel! Peter

thanks again psfred.the system is definately losing pressure.ive been wondering what that device was located directly below the pump.i assume that is the fuel thermostat which routes the fuel thru a heat exchanger.im going to bypass and see if it helps thanks
