Ah. Much like the human race.

As we get older, we evolve into more omniscient beings. We gain wisdom and respect for certain accomplishments, and recognize quality when it is apparent. We may be slower, we may have many dermal imperfections, but we are much more in tune with life and the every fleeting moment we attempt to savor. We take pleasure in doing our work, and we have always done so. We cannot see the logic in spending money on anything that might randomly give out one day.

As in our youth, we are brash and inexperienced. As long as our plate is filled we remain quite ignorant of worldy event and thus, choose to remain so. All that is recognizeable to us is power, power, and more POWER. Control over everyone is the the ultimate goal, and to have the largest and best of whatever we deem worthy is more important than any living thing, save family, on the face of the earth. Money is no object. Credit is as good as cash.

These two paragraphs highlight what I believe are the norms for the average used car Mercedes buyer, and the average new car Mercedes buyer. Just MHO.

FWIW, the grass can only be as healthy green as the sun and nutrients that feed it. Watch for the future.

"$52,900. asking price. Well i'll own one that's for sure...maybe in 10 years, but i'll own it."

These cars are not designed for 10 year lifespan, the engine and drive train will probably last, transmission I doubt seriously, but all the smart electronic gadgets will take you to the cleaners.
In 10 years they will be very cheap, but you have heard this before; there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Benz.

The W123 is a space ship compared to a Model T. With those fancy disc brakes and ABS. The W211's are a fine car in 10 years they will have cheap programs you can plug into your laptop and read the codes. Their are companies that remain electronic parts for MB's anyway. Computers are just like EFI, ABS, independent suspension ect. What is cutting edge one day is childs play the next.

If I had the money (one day I will) I would be enjoying not having to work on my nice new CDI. Then after 5-7 years I'll trade it on a new one. I'm not saying the old MB's aren't great I love playing with them. But having a nice daily driver tht starts is a big plus.
