Unhappy door lock not shutting on 126

12/6/04

81 300SD

Did not find answer on "search". The front door has to be slammed to get the door to shut. The now yellow plastic (?) insert in the receptor portion on the frame is worn and partially gone. Can I get a new insert or do I have to replace the entire lock on frame if the insert is the problem?

I believe I have slammed the door shut too many times as my vacumn locks are not now responding on the other doors. I suspect I have jarred something loose in the door. I am surprised I haven't shattered the window glass...yet.

The outside handle on the left rear door does not open the door. Have to use handle on inside. Is this an easy fix?

After 300,000 + miles, this car is begining to fall apart...but the engine keeps trucking.

Any additional info on my prior posts regarding the lack of fan, pushbutton response and a/c compressor would be appreciated. Not the fuse box as I have juice on both sides of replaced fuse. Old 25 amp was still good, but replaced. After examing wiring under fuse block, I suspect push button control. Repair (resolder) or re place with used or new?

You need a new door striker. The insert of the striker is toast and the best solution is to replace the whole unit unless you can find and replace the yellow section by itself. Losing vaccum so that the other doors dont lock should not have anything to do with you slamming the one door, but anythings possible.

Now here'smy W126 door problem-
The key locks the drivers door, but not the trunk or passenger door. No other key unlcks any either door or trunk. Now my SD is locked and I can't get in! The key tries to open the lock, and goes the full range of counterclockwise motion, but the door lock tee only goes up about a 1/4 inch and then back down. Cant seem to use the coat hanger method as I cant get it inside the car, and don't want to call a locksmith.
HELP!!!

You must be using the valet key....as it will only operate the drivers door and the ignition. Don't you have any other keys? When I got my car they gave me four keys, 3 regular ones and a valet....

Max, Door stiker, plus you could have some door vacuum issues.

MTU, Sounds like you may have a trunk lock problem. Do you hear the vacuum on the trunk engage when you try to open?

If you can get into the trunk, remove the spare tire and get access to the vacuum motor. Remove the vacuum line from the trunk. Using your Mity Vac, apply vacuum, or pressure to this line and all locks should operate. BUT you have to be able to get into the trunk, first.

Appreciate the reponse and will first shop for the yellow portion of the stricker.

Any input as to the left rear outside handle that does not open door. Inside handle will unlock door. Vacumn has suddenly started working on doors. Believe something in trunk over pump was cause of problem.

I "unwittingly" locked my keys in my car the other day (the car only came with iginition key and I only have money to get a single door key)
My drivers door lock tumbler wasn't working so I was used to locking from the back door and whatnot.
The locksmith showed up (friend has AAA+!) and it took him about 12 seconds to open my car...
Quick...painless...and it hurts absolutely nothing...really old guy...very skilled..

Maybe you slammed the door so hard that the vac pump has started complaining of the abuse back there in the trunk in its little foamy/rubber home?
Hehe

I opened my car with a plastic packing strap. Take a hammer and get a flat section doubled. Stick it in the top and work your way down to the lock tee and then push the inside strap more and the strap inches closer to the tee. Pull a little on the outside strap and it goes right over the tee. Pull both and the tee comes up. Took and hour, but my indie who showed me took about 20 seconds on a 560sel at his shop. He said they showed him at MB training....

How does it go over and grab the tee? It takes a fair amount of force to pull it up.
