Yes that first year in a foriegn country is hell, till you can speak conversational level.....
I am happy to hear that.

Do you speak fluent? Or is that you can get stuck sometimes in the middle of a sentence?

I find it hard for me to speak my own language and my parents are both from Bulgaria. for some reason they did not speak to me in Bulgarian and now I am stuck learning on my own. I was for the summer there and It was hell for me. I would get some laughs though....

I was also in a situation similary to yours. I spent a year studying abroad in Germany with a host family. They dropped me right into a German high school and I barely spoke a word of German. I had to pick it up real fast. Within six months I could finally interact with the other students. I went overseas on a program with about 300 other students. To the best of my knowledge, ALL of them could speak German very well by the end of the year. There is simply no excuse for not learning the language of the country you are living in - especially if you are employed! Simply put forth the effort.

I speak it fluently, and read it fluently.......the only problem I have is I never learned to write it because I never had any formal schooling in it, I learned it with a dictionary in hand doing business........

Never get stuck in the middle of a sentance.......I actually had 6 years in italy........5 years on Military base but living offbase in condo I found on my own. and a year later I returned for a year with no ID card and no contact with americans except for once a month I talked to my parents.... THat was only time I spoke english, about one hour a month.......

I haven't even carried a dictionary for 13 years......and spend a month a year there, amoung people who speak very little to no english.....(my in-laws)

I can actually read spanish too, and understand spoken spanish depending on the speakers country of origion. (spain and Columbia are easiest to understand) Used to speak french too, but haven't used that in so long I have forgotten most of it.

Kamil,

I agree with Mplafleur. You don't know what the Diesel clatter sounded like thru her headphones. Sometimes they have a hard time hearing you even without your engine running.

If she asked you nicely to shut off the engine, I don't see anything wrong. If she told you to shut your ****ing engine, that would be different.

I like the newer Burger King systems where they list your order on the speaker post and you can correct any errors with your order. Yeh, Whoppers.

Well, my annual vacations are to Italy.....Air Fare for me and wife plus pocket change are my only expenses...... Stay in Spare bedroom at Inlaws, Have a mile to ride my Lambretta 200 I keep registered over there to get to the beach.......

Heck, I have a 30 day European vacation every year together with my wife for less than $2,600 total.

Well first year in a foriegn country is always the hardest. When you learn enough of the language and get comfortible with it it gets nicer. But still there is no place like home.

Selling realestate is the low form of making a living its worse than being a "Used car salesman" The first words you must learn is "Not that I know of "
and I'll have to check with my manager. After awhile it becomes hard to remember what is real after all the lying you have to do.I have been in both and did well but it became to hard to sleep at night so i gave it up.Never been sorry.

Thanks for the complement DP, but it's not a garage queen. She has some parking lot dink's, but the underside original paint was still visiable last time she was on the rack. I have ordered the seal/gasket for the oilfilter housing to stop the oil leak that has developed. The dealership parts guy and one mechanic have been there since '77 and both said they can't wait to see the car. Yup I'm getting ready to pay the $85 hr shop rate for the repair, I guess I take cinnimon roll's from local bakery shop for the inital bribe.

About that shaking... Our 82' 240d has 173,000 miles on her and when she is idling, cold or warm she has a nice shake to her. With slight pressure on the pedal it goes away and sounds and feels nice. There does not appear to be any blowby at the dipstick, however when you remove the oil fill cap you get the take flight syndrome.. Does this mean the valves or valve seals are worn. I adjusted the valves and everything looks good in there ,, no wear marks on the lobes? What my next step... thanks

O.N., the fact that the car is not a shop queen makes it all the better.

When you remove the oil filler cap it should throw oil all over the place it your oil lines are in good shape, my 240D does. My old 4L Jeep would sling ungodly amounts of oil when the cap was removed, enough so to sling oil on the ceiling & walls of the garage. Don't ask.

Again thanks for the kind words DP, I'll let you know how deep the dealer get's into my pocket.
