I would like to find a reamer for the 617, but no matter what I enter in the search engines, no luck.
What are these devils called?

Performance Products lists the reamer for old type 617 (loop style glow plugs) in their catalog. As I recall, it wasn't cheap. Somewhere north of $125 I think.

I have the newer, smaller pencil type plugs.
Any leads on that? Anyone want to rent one?

Hey, here's another question:
When you ream the crud, doesn't it fall into the cylinder? How can you prevent that?

Quote:
1. Apply grease to the reamer. Some of the carbon will stick to the reamer. 2. After reaming, turn the engine over a few times with the glow plugs out. That will blow a lot of the carbon out of the head. 3. If you don't have a reamer, an appropriately sized drill bit will work. Twist it manually; don't put in in your Makita! |

Don't quote me on this, but I think you are supposed to grease the cutting part to keep some of the krud from falling in. If you crank the engine over with the glow plugs removed, it would probably blow out most of the krud.
