Longest commute?

I've recently taken a new position.... My daily commute is 172 miles round trip. Just today I managed to put 227 miles on the clock... I expect to put 37,840 miles on Dieter in 2005 just commuting!!!

Anyone else have a crazy commute??

Mine is 130 miles round trip on Chicago toll roads during rush hour. If the weather turns fowl, it can be an absolute nightmare. The first heavy snow took 4.5 hours to get home

I used to do almost 90 miles one way. I worked that job 6 days a week. In a little over 9 months I put 38,000 miles on my SD.

My commute on days when I have both school and work ends up being about 33 miles total, but when its just work its about 19 total, or just school around 12-13........today I covered almost 60 miles around the city.....went to the dealer and they didn't have the part in for our 83 when they had said they would all the way out there for nothing, oh well.

I drive from Round Rock, Texas to downtown Austin five days a week. Round Trip 32 miles a day. That's 160 miles a week on the average. This doesn't include errands and doing things with the kids etc...

Commute

10 yrs ago I commuted from Philadelphia to NYC 135 mile door to door for 1 year.
Some number of years ago a contest for the longest commute was won by a dude who drove from soemwhere in CT to Boston daily and had a 525 mile round trip.

I frequently drive to Hunstville but not on daily basis.

These people are insane

. . . If your roundtrip commute totals more than an hour a day, it's time to (a) find a new job; (b) move; or (c) both.

I knew people in Denver who lived in the mountains (I wanted to as well, but knew better) but worked on the opposite side of town. In bad weather, it would take them 2 hours or more each way.

Life's too short for such nonsense.

it's all crazy...

i live south of Albuquerque and work at the airport in ABQ. work 4 10's but used to work a part time job too... so had 4 days at 62miles roundtrip plus 3 days at 80 miles round trip. did that for 2 years... now just the 4 days at 62 miles. but then a lot of weeks end up "going to town" one of my days off (as much as i try to avoid it).
in addition my son drives to school in Socorro about 40 miles south everyday.
the ol Jetta has served us well. now over 236k miles.
we are trying to get our Biodiesel "plant" set up to cook our own fuel.
our commutes are 98% pure freeway though with no tolls, lights, or traffic. sweet.

That would make me go crazy! I-35. Just driving from Belton to Austin airport 1 X month was enough - and it gets crazy at Round Rock

I guess my daily RT commute of 75 miles pales to many but it helps having an efficient and reliable car such as a W123 MB. I had considered moving closer to my job but the thoughts of living in the city always made me think twice. I enjoy living in the country in peace and quiet. I live on 5 acres on top of a level hilltop lot and the distant views of the city are as close as I would ever want the city to be near me. The drive is also very relaxing once I leave the outskirts of the metro area.

Mine commute is almost laughible comperd to most of you....its only 16 miles each way......BUt I pay thru the nose to live that close to DC.

My worst Commute was to a job I had in a R&D Lab designing a Scanning Electron Microscope, in Trafford PA that was 57 miles one way......took an hour and a half each way on a good day, from where I was staying.

you do what you've got to do..

for 3 years, I commuted from southern RI near the CT border to Framingham MA..@ 90 miles each way..left at 4:30, got to work at 7:00, left at 4:00, got home at 5:30, provided there were no problems. It sucked but I was living way in the country next to an old mill dam, overlooking the waterfalls, far from any city. Needless to say, I didn't go anywhere on the weekends. The worst part was the first day back to work after a vacation. Bought my 84 300cd when I moved there with 150k on the clock. Then moved "closer" where my commute is now 60 miles each way for the past 2-1/2 years and only takes an hour...what a big difference an hour a day makes..luckily, the traffic on 495 "cruises" at 80-85 at 5:00 in the morning. The "magic bus" now has @ 360k on it and is on the 3rd windshield. Still runs like a top but is getting real rough around the edges aka fenders, door bottoms, etc. and none of the windows work any more. It'll go up for sale when warm weather arrives but in the meantime, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross-country if I had a need to..what a car..too bad it wasn't fiberglass.

Sorry guys, but my commute is only 8 miles one-way. In winter it's not even long enough to switch my new veggie system on. In summer, I ride my bike. I love driving, but hate commuting. I guess that I suffer from a severe case of trafficjamitis.

How about the shortest commute? I used to live and work in Dowtown Richmond. It was so close I walked to work.

Now I have a 10 mile commute each way.
