Replacing oil filter ....
How many people replace the oil filter approx. half way through an oil change interval?
Does it help anything at all? Since these oil filters are so cheap and I've found through oil analyses that I could go approx. 8-9K between changes. Would it help to replace the oil filter at 4K and replace some oil that was lost, in turn replacing some of the additives in the oil I guess.... Did this on my E300 and the C220, although I don't travel that long on the oil in the C220. I run the Mobil Truck & SUV in both. After 3,668 miles the oil is still brownish / golden. I figured by this point the oil would be much darker since it has been cleaning the crud from previous years of dino.

One of the main reasons for changing oil is because the additives get used up. I have never changed oil withouth changing filter and vice versa.
In the old days (yes, I'm old enough to remember them) they actually changed the oil only and only changed the filter every other oil change. I never did that either. Have a great day, Change oil hot and change oil often. |
