w116 EURO lights brighter than USA lights

I pulled another set of w116 EURO headlights off another (this is the second time in three months) 1979 300SD EURO with velvet interior to sell on eBay. But I have been driving at night a lot lately and I was wondering if the EURO lights illuminate significantly better than the stock USA lights. If so I would put them on our car and maybe save a little old lady on a rainy night. Did anyone that changed from USA headlights to EURO headlights notice any difference? Are there any opinions on the matter?
Thanks in advance
Dave S

cool

Cool I guess now I just have to figure out how to wire them up. I have seen the euro lights on w123 and they sure seemed brighter. Now if I can justify changing the interior to the EURO LOL

mattdave, just for your information. The first EURO SD was a '92 300SD. So he car you were looking at has either had the diesel put in or someone switched lights/bumpers.
Thanks
David

What we call Euro lights could have been used in some of the other "national version" diesels perhaps. AUS, J, HK, ZA (Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, South Africa) come to mind. I don't know what headlights were in these countries, but I doubt if they were DOT types. Heck I don't even know if those countries imported 116 chassis diesel; but I do know the TDM shows a 126 diesel specification for Japan, so not inconceivable that some country had a 116 diesel with "non-USA" lights. Didn't a lot of non-USA taxis and livery diesels world wide have non-DOT (Euro lghts)? FWIW

You need to search on this question under "Euro lights". LOTS of information. The simple answer to your question is: YES!!!
